Religious art leaves out the best part and it’s such a goddamn shame.

what do you think the ISU's reasoning was, to remove the set pattern for seniors but not juniors? it's strange to think what ice dance is going to look like in 4 yrs, 8 yrs if they keep removing the structure from it. is it true that step sequences in singles and pairs are harder than what's being asked of dancers now? and I see people upset about the assisted jump element, but I think it's going to be fun to see what people come up with. I'm far more upset about the pattern being gone
istg I don’t get it at all. They probably think keeping patterns for juniors will help give them a good base, but every ice dance requirement in the past decade, and in particular in that last quad, made everything that makes ice dance - ice dance completely irrelevant.
The direction should have been completely opposite, they should have taken out at least one choregraphic element and added a pattern to the FD. Instead, they removed the pattern from the RD and added another option for a choreographic element.
Choreographic elements are elements that 95% of the time are marked completely based on the team’s rank and reputation. P/C had the blandest and most uninspired choreographic elements and were the only team to get a perfect score for it which means 4.15 GOE points for each one. If you’d follow the scoring you’ll see that the GOEs for them are usually +1.66, +2.49, +3.32 GOE points - you will see, the first means mostly +2, the second mostly +3, and the third mostly +4. Teams like C/P, L/L, R/A will get mostly +1.66, teams like H/B, Canadanes, S/D will get mostly +2.49, teams like H/D, C/B, G/F will get +3.32, and P/C will get +4.15. With three choreographic elements it creates a gap of ~3 points between P/C and the rest based on the choreographic elements alone. It’s a joke and it has nothing to do with the element itself unless it’s rare cases like Disco Brits who excel at getting high marks for the choregraphic elements or S/D this season with the Zorro FD. These are three elements that embody everything that is wrong with ice dance.
And instead of addressing this issue and others (bonkers PCS scoring, levels not mattering anymore), they are taking the FD in the wrong direction. Who the fuck needs an assisted jump choregraphic element?!?!
And then it gets worse with the RD. The RD was the one program where the weak teams couldn’t hide their flaws for the most part and the program where only the best teams (again, for the most part) were rewarded and secured a gap from the lesser teams. It’s the reason V/M and H/D were able to win against much lesser teams, you just couldn’t hide with the RD, it just set teams apart. So to remove the pattern from it and make it less technical? That’s a killer move for ice dance and the one that is hurting me the most tbh.
